Apple often avoids sharing detailed specifications for its iPhones, opting instead for more general terms. This includes information on wired charging speeds. For the new iPhone 16 series, as with previous models, Apple says the devices can reach a 50% charge in 30 minutes when using the official 20W USB-C power adapter.
That’s all the information provided on Apple’s official specs page, but a recent certification from China suggests that the iPhone 16 series will support faster charging speeds of up to 45W. According to the China Quality Certification Center (CQC), the iPhone 16 (A3288), iPhone 16 Plus (A3291), iPhone 16 Pro (A3294), and iPhone 16 Pro Max (A3297) all support charging at 5-15 volts and 3 are amps This translates to a peak charging speed of up to 45W, which is a significant improvement over the iPhone 15 series, which maxes out at 27-29W.
Although Apple continues to quote the same “50% charge in 30 minutes” figure for iPhone 16 models, it’s important to note that this benchmark is based on a 20W USB-C power adapter. Newer iPhones should be able to use higher-powered chargers that adhere to the Power Delivery (PD) standard. However, it remains to be seen whether this will result in a significant reduction in the time required for a full charge from 0 to 100%.
