Samsung to introduce Galaxy S26 featuring silicon-carbon batteries

Samsung is reportedly exploring ways to improve the battery capacity of the Galaxy S26 by adopting advanced battery technology. According to FNNews, the Korean tech giant is considering a Silicon-Carbon solution, which could enable battery capacities of up to 7,000 mAh.

This new technology involves replacing graphite with silicon in the cathode material, significantly boosting energy storage. While concerns about high production costs initially hindered adoption, the successful implementation by brands like Xiaomi, Vivo, and OnePlus has prompted Samsung to join the trend.

Samsung remains cautious about silicon-carbon batteries due to its large-scale production compared to Chinese competitors. Any issues with the technology could have widespread consequences. This conservative approach mirrors its consistent use of 25W and 45W charging rates over the years.

Despite these concerns, Samsung is making significant investments to integrate Si/C batteries into its flagship models next year. FNNews suggests that material composition and expansion issues have been resolved, which may also encourage Apple to adopt thinner batteries for the iPhone 17.

Currently, the Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W charging — the same configuration as the Galaxy S20 Ultra from five years ago. The standard Galaxy S25 comes with a 4,000 mAh battery and 25W charging, unchanged from its 2020 counterpart. Only the Galaxy S25+ has seen modest battery upgrades, even though it remains the least popular model in the flagship series.
